MASTI is SASA’s official, audition-only dance troupe and the only South Asian dance group at BC. The team puts on many performances throughout the year both on campus and at schools such as Harvard and UConn. MASTI competes annually in the Cultural Division of ALC Showdown, BC’s largest dance competition. The group took home first place in 2014, 2011, 2009, 2007, and second place in 2010 and 2013. With routines that blend Filmi/Bollywood, Fusion, Bhangra, Garba, Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and more, MASTI has something for everyone to enjoy. The team is comprised of an equal number of males and females, for a total of 14-18 members depending on the year. MASTI welcomes students of any background, so long as they love to dance their hearts out! Like their Facebook page to stay up to date on them here!

JM Becerra, ’15

Juan-Miguel is a Senior and will be one of the MASTI Captains for the 2014-2015 year. His lack of Garba skills are made up by his Latin dancing through Bachata, Merengue and Tango. This wanna-be Indian is an Economics and Political Science major in the College of Arts and Sciences. He has been working with the AJE group this summer and was an Orientation Leader for the summer of 2013. During the year he can be found in the Academic Advising Center or working in the Rahner house being a captain for Freshman League. He considers Masti one of the best teams in BC and is excited to prove it for a second straight year at showdown!

Aashini Shrivastav ’16

Aashini is a Junior and will be one of the MASTI Captains for 2014-2015. She has lived all her life in the tame desert of Dubai and is therefore, deathly scared of people. This shy, soft-spoken girl is majoring in Economics and Theology and hopes to go to law school after graduation. Her hobbies include whispering, knitting and garde…LOL jk she is very fun loving and loves being loud (ALL THE TIME)! Even though this FOB has been trained in Kathak, she enjoys many types of dance such as Bollywood, Garba and Belly dance. She truly believes that this year’s MASTI team will be A+ and hopes that they can successfully demonstrate this fact both on and off campus!
